Canine carnival attracts hundreds to downtown Windsor

Every dog had its day — and its 15 minutes of fame.
Canines of all shapes and sizes strutted in costume for enthusiastic crowds, posed for photo shoots or waited patiently for their humans to purchase yummy treats Saturday during the Dog Days of Summer canine carnival held in and around the Pelissier Street parking garage.
The fun event, hosted by the Downtown Windsor BIA and Dog Training by KB, saw hundreds of four-legged companions and their owners stop by to watch dog training demonstrations, a doggie fashion show and meet therapy dogs from the St. John’s Amburlance pet therapy team.

They also watched Const. Marc Tremblay and his canine partner, Rolex, from the Windsor Police Service canine unit, in action and learned about their vital roles in helping to keep the community safe.
Kelly Wigle of Amherstburg stopped by early in the day with her pooch Gwen and her son, Cole Wigle and his dog Alice.
“I came to see all the dog vendors and socialize my dog,” said Kelly as the doggies lounged at their feet, keeping cool on the concrete floor.
“We bought duck hearts and dried cheese curds,” Kelly said. “Both dogs love them.”
This was her first visit to the farmers market as well, which she planned to explore after the fashion show.
“It’s really nice here,” she said.
Plenty of vendors set up inside and outside the garage, selling everything from chic accessories to grooming products, and pet services to dog treats.
Lauren Hedges of Dogs of DWFM was kept busy snapping complimentary portraits, while Second Chance Animal Rescue showed off several adorable dogs looking for their forever homes.
