Cat’s Reaction to Meeting Owner’s New Kitten Delights Viewers

A cat called Molokai has melted hearts across the internet after his owner shared a video of his reaction to meeting the family’s new kitten, in a clip that has quickly gone viral on social media.
In the footage, shared on TikTok on Saturday, under the username Molokai722, Molokai can be seen sniffing his little brother before instantly bonding with him, and they subsequently appear to be inseparable.
The heartwarming post comes with a caption that explains: “Introducing a kitten to my 1-year-old cat.” Followed by: “I think he likes him.”

While these two cats clearly hit it off from the beginning, most pet owners are not so lucky and need to go through a lengthy process of introduction. Because cats are territorial creatures, they will most likely need help adapting to their new sibling, welcoming them to the family, but as their owner there are some things you can do to make this easier.
It’s a process that needs time and patience, but it seems generally to be totally worth it. Newsweek previously reported on the best way to introduce a kitten to your new cat and found that it can’t be done all at once—instead you should take your time to allow the pets to get used to each other.
The first thing you should do is introduce the two kitties through their scent. The best way to do so is rubbing a cloth on your kitten to collect their scent and then offering the cloth to your older cat to smell, as well as some treats as a reward, to make this a positive experience.
You must give each of the cats their own personal space, where they can isolate if needed. It is also important to keep the cats separated in the beginning and to keep their interactions monitored until they are obviously comfortable with each other.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 374,500 views and 14,600 likes on the platform.
One user, Jen, commented: “How sweet! Big brother is giving him some welcoming skippidy papa.” And Tan R said: “I wish mine were like this. Had the new kitten a week and my cat hates her. Constantly fighting.”
Connypimentel6 wrote: “Mine is 7 months and he is chasing and biting my 8 weeks old kitten. I have tried many things and it is the 4th day and still need to keep him separate.”
Erinvisible said: “Mine just hisses and runs away from the kitten,” while Jessy added: “My cat was hissing after seeing the kitten in the crate for 5 mins 🙁 hope it improves after trying this a few times first.”
