‘You can see the gators swimming around’: Stranded dog rescued along Martin County spillway

DOG ON THE TREASURE COAST THAT WE’RE TOLD WAS STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. TAKE A LOOK AT THE PHOTO AND SURROUNDED BY ALLIGATORS, SURVIVED ANGELA ROZIER JOINING US FROM PALM CITY AND SAYS IT WAS A GROUP EFFORT. BUT RIGHT NOW, THAT DOG IS HERE AT THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE TREASURE COAST. WE’RE TOLD SHE’S DOING FINE. SOME MAY BE CALLING HER LUCKY. HI, BABY. KNOW I GOT THAT VOICE YOU HEAR IS BELLE GLADE RESIDENT WENDY DIAZ. SHE’S TELLING HER HUSBAND SHE WANTS TO STAY A LITTLE LONGER AND TRY AND GET THE DOG TO COME TO HER. I WAS SAYING, BABY, NO, I WANT TO STAY. I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE. I WANT TO STAY WITH HER. THE STRANDED DOG WAS FOUND TUESDAY AFTERNOON IN PORT MAYACA ON A SPILLWAY THAT HAD A 12 FOOT DROP AND WAS SURROUNDED BY WATER. THAT PLACE, YOU KNOW, WASN’T THE MIDDLE OF THE NOWHERE, SHE SAYS. THERE WERE ALLIGATORS. YOU CAN SEE THE GATOR SWIMMING AROUND. AND, YOU KNOW, I WAS I WAS SCARED FOR THE DOG AND ALSO FOR US, SHE SAYS FINALLY, THEY DIALED 911. THE WOMAN ON THE PHONE TOLD HER ANIMAL SERVICE SUPERVISOR WITH THE MARTIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WOULD HEAD TO THE SCENE. AND I SAID, OH, THANK YOU, LORD, THANK YOU. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SHARED THESE PHOTOS OF THE CREWS ON SCENE AND THE RESCUE. DIAZ WAS THRILLED TO GET THE GOOD NEWS. SHE TEXTED ME BACK. SHE SENT ME SOME PICTURES, HOURS, AND I WAS AT HOME DEPOT AND I SAID, BABE, THEY’VE RESCUE HER. HI, BABY. YOU ANOTHER ONE? THERE WE GO. GOOD GIRL. THE DOG WAS TAKEN TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE TREASURE COAST. SHE’S DOING PRETTY GOOD CONSIDERING THE CIRCUMSTANCE. SAYS SHE’S VERY, VERY SCARED. SO WE’VE BEEN SITTING WITH HER EVERY DAY TRYING TO GET HER TO TRUST US. THEY SAY SHE APPEARS TO BE HEALTHY. IF THE DOG WASN’T FOUND, SHE DEFINITELY WOULDN’T HAVE SURVIVED BECAUSE THAT WAS A 12 FOOT DROP AND SHE WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT ON HER OWN AND ANYTHING COULD HAVE GOTTEN HER OVER THERE. SO I’M REALLY JUST GRATEFUL THAT MARTIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WAS ABLE TO FIND HER AND CAPTURE HER IN PALM CITY.
