Trash Rabbit’s unsettling new music video channels the paranoid mind

The track “Dead Dwelling,” by the Boston band Trash Rabbit, is about self-consciousness and how it can curdle into paranoia. “I can not are living by means of this yet again/ But I simply cannot prevent likely by the feelings up in my head,” direct singer Mena Lemos howls about a furious drum fill. The audio is delirious and round, like the spinning thoughts of an insomniac.
To seize that feeling in the music online video for “Dead Property,” the band brainstormed as several unsettling photos as they could muster: useless flowers, street lights at night, an eerie shot of Lemos in a white costume spattered with blood. Some of the scenes were being lifted instantly from bassist Nic Adams’ desire journal. (“I have very vivid goals,” Adams suggests.) Two MassArt students, Amelia Allison and Rose Fitzgerald, shot and edited the movie, a blur of lo-fi chaos that could be greatest described as a demented household video clip from the ‘90s.
In the course of the video, the customers of the band almost never appear by yourself. Lemos and Adams joined up with drummer Gibran Mobarak, and Trash Rabbit was born. They strike the Boston basement scene, acquiring a scrappy, riff-laden type to match Lemos’ brash phase existence. Now, all three are students at Berklee Higher education of New music, and their sound has grow to be at as soon as much more sophisticated and refined. “Dead Property,” the single off of Trash Rabbit’s 2021 EP “Trash Rabbit Provides: Rabbit‘s Rumble,” encapsulates this shift with its satisfying mix of “consonance and dissonance,” as Lemos puts it. The track merges virtuosic math-rock licks with punk chaos and cathartic melodies, pushing the boundaries of depth devoid of at any time pretty crossing the line.
